Mineral Name: Analcime

Composition: Sodium aluminum silicate hydrate

Nomenclature: Named after the Greek "an alkimos" which means "not strong." This is a reference to the mineral's property to produce weak pyroelectricity; that is, the mineral generates a weak electric current when rubbed or heated.

Industrial Uses: Chemical filters.

Additional Notes: A member of the Zeolite group of minerals. Also referred to as analcite; however, the name analcime is preferred.
