Mineral Name: Chrysoprase

Composition: Silicon oxide

Nomenclature: Named after the Greek words "chrysos" and "prason" which means "gold" and "a leek" respectively because of its color.

Industrial Uses: Gemstone.

Additional Notes: Chrysoprase is a variety of chalcedony that is impregnated with nickel compounds to produce a bright yellow-green color. Chalcedony is a cryptocrystalline (crystals of sub-microscopic size) variety of quartz with a somewhat waxy appearance.
