Composition: Aluminum silicate
Nomenclature: Named after the Greek word kyanos which means "blue" because of its color.
Industrial Uses: High-temperature ceramics and crucibles.
Additional Notes: Kyanite is extremely thermally stable, and is able to withstand rapid temperature changes without breaking. Kyanite is also referred to as cyanite, even in some recent literature.
