Composition: Arsenic sulfide
Nomenclature: Named fom the Arabic "rahj al ghar" which means "powder of the mine."
Industrial Uses: Arsenic ore; pigments (fireworks color, for example).
Additional Notes: Also referred to as ruby silver. Realgar is a chemically unstable mineral that alters to pararealgar, a mineral which closely resembles orpiment. The chemical alteration is accelerated by exposure of the mineral to light.
